Over the last few months, we have seen an increasing number of requests for fasteners, mainly bolts, sets, nuts and washers from enthusiasts in the Heritage steam sector. Whilst a fairly small sector of business, there does appear to be a strong demand for quality, industrial grade fasteners, particularly in the older and mainly imperial sizes such as Unified, Whitworth and BA. We have been supplying manufacturers of all types of industrial equipment for many years and have come across many applications in that time.
We have also been supplying the classic vehicle market, including trucks, tractors, cars and motor cycles, so have geared up to supply fasteners for vehicles build in the post war period. We also supply specialist restoration businesses that value quality and provenance. Our fasteners are the same, industrial quality, with proven provenance that we supply to our manufacturing and engineering customers.
With over 40 years experience, particularly with customers in rail and transport sectors, we have built stocks of fasteners, which would currently be classified as obsolete or “hard to find”. Over the years we have discussed rationalising our stock, however we always decide to hang on, finding room somewhere in our stockrooms. Hanging onto obsolete stock now means we can supply where others cannot. Many people are using metric fasteners in the mistaken belief that older sizes don’t now exist or cannot be sourced.
Whilst we have access to a wide range from our own stockrooms, we can also have items made at reasonable prices. For instance, our manufacturing partners have cast domed fasteners to attach tank armor on a WW2 tank; we have also had brass bolts manufactured for a stately home staircase. So, if we don’t have it in stock, we can have it manufactured…although this is clearly a more expensive option. But what better way to retain authenticity and value to your pride and joy.
